A gifted young woman leaves her simple, rural American town to become a world famous opera singer in The American Collection’s The Song of the Lark, adapted from Willa Cather’s powerful novel.
Alison Elliott (The Wings of the Dove, The Buccaneers on Masterpiece Theatre) stars as Thea Kronborg, a talented and beautiful young woman growing up in 1890s Colorado. Maximilian Schell (Judgement at Nuremberg, Miss Rose White) is Herr Wunsch, the alcoholic piano teacher who nurtures her life’s passion: music.
The Song of the Lark, Cather’s third novel, was published in 1915 to wide acclaim; it was based in part on Cather’s own experiences growing up on the Great Plains in Red Cloud, Nebraska. The film’s Emmy-nominated screenwriter Joseph Maurer says, “The Song of the Lark is about finding one’s passion, honoring the people who help along the way, and burnishing the life and talent we’re given.”
