Alone in a new country, wealthy Sara Crewe tries to settle in and make friends at boarding school. But when she learns that she’ll never see her beloved father gain, her life is turned upside down. The family-friendly mini-series is based upon the novel, A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Produced by London Weekend television and shown on PBS / Wonderworks.

Note: The 1986 version is accepted as the most faithful adaptation of the book, partly because [A Little Princess (1995)](http://amzn.to/1HWtCru) shifts the place to New York and the time period to 1914 just before the outbreak of World War I and makes a more fairytale ending. There is also a [The Little Princess (1939)](http://amzn.to/1HWtJmK) starring Shirley Temple, which also shifts the ending though it is set in Victorian England.
