A timeless coming-of-age story, told through the nostalgic eyes of one man, who grew-up in this tough but enduring rural community, a microcosmic view of all that makes us who we are.

This family saga tells the story of 20th Century England, as great historical events are refracted through the perspectives of a Derbyshire village’s inhabitants. We first meet Bert Middleton as a twelve-year-old boy. Britain has just declared war on Germany and the young men of the Village, including Bert’s older brother Joe, have gone off to fight.

Two series – set beginning in 1914, by the second series it is the early 1920s.
